Edythe Bantz

February 23, 1937 — May 24, 2021

Edythe “Ede” Bantz passed away on May 24th, 2021 after a long illness. She had been a resident at The Windsor at San Pablo in Jacksonville, FL, since moving from Transylvania County in 2016 to be closer to family. Ede was proud of her NC roots, having been born in Asheville, NC in 1937. Her family moved from NC to St. Petersburg, Florida in the 1940s, until she returned back to her beloved mountains, settling in Sapphire, NC with her husband, where they enjoyed many years of working and socializing in the Sapphire community.

Ede ran the Hogback Lamp store during the 1980s and 1990s. After making their home in Pisgah Forest at Glen Cannon Country Club in the 1990s, she enjoyed playing golf and spending time with her many close friends. She adored nature and devoted herself to the many fortunate pets that found their home with her.

She is preceded in death by her husband J. David Bantz; sister Betty Riley, parents Marie Stolz Rodgers and William S. Rodgers. She is survived by stepdaughter Kathleen Spencer (Dave), and granddaughters Abby and Rebecca Spencer.

Family graveside services will be held at Memorial Park Cemetery, St. Petersburg, FL in December of 2021.

Please consider a donation to the Transylvania County Rescue Squad in her honor.
