Dr. Barry Paul Lieberman

Dr. Barry Lieberman passed away on February 26th at 2 AM at the age of 92 at Community Hospice in Jacksonville, Florida.   He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Kathyrn, sons, Howard and David, daughter-in-laws, Donna and Tina and grand children, Noah, Ben and Sophia, as well as his younger brother, Leon (Sally) and several nieces and nephews.   He is predeceased by his parents and sisters Loraine (Henry) Foner and Elaine (Saul) Seif

Barry was Born on April 14th 1931, in Jamaica, Queens N.Y. to Lillian and Martin Lieberman. After graduating Jamaica High School, he received a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting at Syracuse University in 1952, a  Masters in Art Education at City College in 1958 and Doctorate in Art Education at NYU in 1980.  He spent the majority of his teaching career at Syosset High School, where he taught art, photography and cinematography.  He was a tennis coach, year book advisor and also taught at Suffolk Community college and Southhampton College on Long Island NY.

After retiring at 60, he and his wife left their long time home of Hauppauge, NY and moved to Phoenix, AZ, Warner Robbins, GA and Jacksonville, FL.

He was an excellent painter into his 90s. He also was a photographer and sculptor. His works were displayed in numerous galleries over the years. He enjoyed swimming, played tennis competitively until 80 and practiced Aikido for years. Until less than a year ago, he worked out near daily, in spite of health challenges.

Barry was mild mannered, honest, generous and a man of few words. When challenged, he was strong.  He was knowledgeable, well read and would converse deeply, if needed. He had a good sense of humor and appreciated music.

He exhibited great strength coping with multiple health challenges while caring for the love of his life Kathryn, who he married on February 19th 1954. He often put his family's needs before his. His passing leaves a void in all who knew him. At his request, there will not be a public service.
