Donald Francis Muldoon of Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, passed away on February 10, 2026, from complications of lung cancer. He was 88.
He was born on April 9, 1937, on the Lower East Side of New York City, where he was raised. In 1956, Don joined the United States Army and proudly served his country in Korea. After returning home, he pursued higher education at New York University, graduating in 1961. A year later, he married the love of his life, Maureen. Their marriage of 57 years was a true partnership, marked by devotion, laughter, and shared adventure, until her passing in 2019.
Don built a long and accomplished career in the insurance industry. He began in 1962 as an underwriting trainee with The Travelers in Hartford, Connecticut, where his intelligence, work ethic, and integrity quickly became evident. In 1975, he joined American Risk Management, Inc., then the largest captive insurance management organization in the world. Over the years, Don served as president of a managing general agency bearing his name that specialized in the captive insurance industry, and later as a respected risk management consultant in alternative insurance markets. From 1996 until his retirement in 2016, he worked as a consultant for the Builders’ Association Self-Insurers’ Fund in Kansas City, Missouri, a role in which he was deeply valued for his expertise and sound judgment.
Though his career took the family to many places—including Harrisburg, Pennsylvania; Bridgewater, New Jersey; Simsbury, Connecticut; and Mahwah, New Jersey—Ponte Vedra Beach always held a special place in Don and Maureen’s hearts. They spent vacation time there beginning in 1981 and ultimately settled there permanently in 1998. Don was a longtime member of Sawgrass Country Club and TPC Sawgrass, where he enjoyed the camaraderie, the game of golf, and the friendships he built over the years.
Above all else, Don was a devoted family man. He is survived by his daughters, Gerianne Muldoon of Arlington, Virginia; Mary-Kate (David) Pike of San Clemente, California; and Nancy (Robert) Hostler of Westfield, New Jersey; his beloved grandchildren, Ben (Abbi), Aidan, Audrey, Herron, Maggie, Maureen, Abby, and Teddy; his brother, Richard Muldoon of Dallas, Texas; and many treasured friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Maureen, and his son, John.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on April 9, 2026—what would have been Don’s 89th birthday—at 11:00 AM at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church in Ponte Vedra Beach.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association in honor of his late wife.
