Mrs. Dolores R. Frost, born September 17, 1931, in Chicago, Illinois, passed away peacefully on December 10, 2025. She loved God and was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and friend.
Born of loving Croatian parents, Dolores grew up in Chicago’s East Side in a close family with two brothers, Jim and Thomas, and sister Donna, and graduated from Bowen High School. At the 1950 Army – Navy Game, her brother Jim, a Midshipman at the U.S. Naval Academy, introduced her to the man who would become the love of her life, S. David Frost, class of 1953. Dolores and David were married in Chicago on October 17, 1953, and began a love story that spanned 66 years. After the Navy moved them around the country, they then spent much of their retirement years in Northern Virginia, and moved to Ponte Vedra Beach, FL, in 2014. Dolores always put everyone else’s needs above her own. She reveled in the joy and success of others and never forgot a family birthday or important milestone and was always there for every significant event in her family’s lives. One of Dolores’s many travels took her to Croatia, where she met cousins with whom she remained close throughout her life.
Dolores was a devout Catholic and participated in numerous charitable organizations. She volunteered at her church and at Bethesda Naval Hospital for many years. Her principal interest was her family. She enjoyed reading and crossword puzzles and was an exceptional cook and baker; she loved to play Scrabble and besting any family member up to the challenge.
Dolores’s beloved husband, David, predeceased her in 2020; she is survived by her brother Thomas (Jeanne) Radja, daughter Kathy (Mark) Duffner; Captain Dave (Sally) Frost, USN(Retired); Karen Frost, and Mary (Francis) Frisby; and eight grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Dolores was gracious, kind, and generous to everyone and loved by all who met her.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2:00 on Monday, December 29, 2025, at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church in Ponte Vedra Beach. Interment will take place at the U.S. Naval Academy Cemetery in early 2026.
