Darlene Violet Drafts

Our mother, Darlene Violet Drafts, peacefully passed on 12-18-2022 in Jacksonville, Florida at 91 years young.  Darlene was preceded in death by her husband Robert of 67 years.

She is survived by three sons, Robert (Vicki), Tim (Wanda), and Bill (Jill) Drafts, three grandchildren, Teri, Dean and Dylan and two great grandchildren, all who brought her great joy. 

Darlene was a registered nurse (RN), graduating from Methodist hospital in Peoria, IL.  working primarily in emergency rooms over the years helping save many lives. Perhaps the ‘high point’ in her career was as a private nurse to Theodor Seuss Geisel in San Diego
- better known as “Dr. Seuss”

Darlene was an incredibly loving mother, especially considering she was surrounded by four men. She was known as ‘Saint Darlene’, always being calm, loving and nurturing.  She spent a lot of time volunteering at various Garden Club organizations, as well as the Red Hat Society and playing many cards games, especially bridge.

Darlene and Robert lived in many states, including Illinois, New York, Michigan, California, Texas, and then finally Florida, where they retired, making many friends along the way.

They were ardent travelers having been to over 112 counties.  The last thing I heard Mom say to Dad was "we had a good run".  She is missed by all that knew her.
