Concepcion Bio Puro

January 15, 1952 — January 10, 2023

Jacksonville

Concepcion Bio Puro, 70, returned to her heavenly home on January 10th, 2023, a few days shy of her 71st birthday.  She was born on January 15th, 1952, in Daraga, Philippines.  She proudly became an American resident in 1984 and was happy to call Jacksonville, FL her home since.

Concepcion was known as mommy or Lola by her family and Peachy to her friends.  She is survived by her loving husband for 49 years, Virgilio; children, Maria, Virdeo, Claudette, and Christine; grandchildren, Gage, Ella, Berkeley, Serena, and Ellissa. She was predeceased by her daughter Catherine.

Her career started in the Philippines where she achieved a ‘topnotcher’ award for achieving the 3rd highest score in the nation for the nursing board exam.  Her passion for caring was truly a gift to everyone around her.  After serving as an ICU nurse for decades, she retired from Baptist Health in 2017.  She loved to travel, especially with her Forever 5 best friends and reunions with classmates from the Philippines.

During her retirement, she rekindled her passion for gardening and resuscitated the victims of her children’s black thumbs.  She was happiest in the kitchen cooking a Filipino feast of lumpia, adobo, and pan-de-coco for her family.  It was a rare sight that she was not smiley and cheerful.  Her strong faith was evident by reciting the rosary daily and frequent pilgrimages to Our Lady de la Leche Shrine in St. Augustine, where all her prayers were always answered.  As the matriarch, she has left behind a legacy of putting God and Family first, always.

A viewing will be held on Sunday January 15th, 2023, from 3:00pm - 5:00pm at Quinn-Shalz Family Funeral Home in Jacksonville Beach, FL where flowers can be sent.  Please address donations to Virgilio Puro.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:00am, Monday, January 16th, 2023, in St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Mayport with Reverend Rafael Lavilla as Celebrant.

A gathering will be held after the funeral at 2380 Covington Creek Dr. W. Jacksonville, FL 32224.
