Chriss Lee Spires, Sr., age 91, of Jacksonville Beach, Florida passed away peacefully on December 7, 2025.
Chriss was born in McRae, Georgia to Marion and Mary (Gregory) Spires. Chriss married Patricia (Freeman) Spires on December 3, 1955. They recently celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary.
Chriss joined the Navy at age 17 and retired as a Master Chief. He earned a Bachelors and a Masters degree in Education from University of North Florida.
Chriss was a proud patriot. He spent 50 years serving his country in Naval Aviation; 20 years in the United States Navy and 30 years of civil service working at NAS Jacksonville. Chriss was also a Professor at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University.
Chriss’ greatest achievement was his family. He was a devoted and loving husband, father, and grandfather. He took great pride in the many opportunities and experiences military life afforded the family.
Chriss and Patty created a home full of love, respect, and honor, which they opened to many friends, family, and acquaintances over the years. Chriss loved reading, music of all genres and antique cars. He was an avid volunteer at the Amelia Concours d’Elegance. Chriss was also an expert marksman on the Navy Pistol Team.
Chriss is survived by his wife, Patty; son, Chriss Jr. (Jennifer); daughter, Julie (Scott); grandchildren Chriss III, Aspen, and Sydney; his brothers Corbett and Roger. Chriss was predeceased by many beloved family members, including his youngest brother, Jimmy Spires.
Interment will be held on December 26th, 2025 at Jacksonville National Cemetery (4083 Lannie Road, Jacksonville, Florida 32218) from 2:30 pm to 3:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society (NMCRS) or American Parkinson Disease Association (APDA).
Jacksonville National Cemetery
Family and friends are invited to attend the Committal Service with Military Honors for Chriss at Jacksonville National Cemetery at 2:30 p.m. Guests are encouraged to arrive 10–15 minutes early and pull into Lane #2. At approximately 2:30 p.m., cemetery staff will lead all vehicles to the committal shelter for the service.
