Charles Thaddeus
Sherer, III
January 19, 1948 – May 17, 2026
Charles “Ted” Thaddeus Sherer III, age 78, of St. Marys, Georgia, passed away on May 17, 2026, with his two daughters by his side.
Ted was born on January 19, 1948, in Providence, Rhode Island, to Charles Thaddeus Sherer II and Helen Rand. He grew up in Hartford, Connecticut, where he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and playing sports.
Ted attended Brooks School, a college-preparatory boarding school in North Andover, Massachusetts. He later attended the University of Louisville in Kentucky, where he met his first wife, Suzanne Frank.
Ted joined the United States Navy in 1970 and rose to the rank of Commander. During his military career, he enjoyed being stationed throughout the country. He and Suzanne had two daughters, Teal and Brynn.
After retiring from the Navy in 1990, Ted and his family moved to Lenoir City, Tennessee. Ted taught JROTC at West High School in Knoxville and played golf at Fox Den Country Club.
Following his divorce in 2002, Ted married Renee Clark in 2006. Together, they shared many happy years traveling and spending time with their children and grandchildren. In 2015, they moved to Osprey Cove, Georgia, where Ted enjoyed playing golf, making wonderful friends, and watching his grandchildren learn to swim in their pool.
Ted was truly one of a kind and will be remembered for his quick wit, sense of humor, and unforgettable stories. Known as “Teddy” to his grandchildren, he will be greatly missed.
Ted was preceded in death by his parents and by his wife, Renee, who passed away just 35 days before him.
He is survived by his sister, Cathy Murray (Jack) of Londonderry; his daughters, Teal Sherer Alsaleh (Ali) of Seattle and Brynn Whitworth (Caleb) of Knoxville; grandchildren Ben, Hudson, and River; stepsons Dr. Brian Lacy Johnson (Amanda) of Asheville and Tyler Lansden Johnson (Mary) of Chapel Hill; and grandchildren Asher, Clara, Sarah, Ethan, and Hailey.
The family would like to thank the healthcare staff at DaVita St. Marys Dialysis and Ted’s close friends in Osprey Cove, who supported him and Renee like family during the final years of their lives.
Ted will be honored with a U.S. Navy Burial at Sea and a private celebration of life with his immediate family.
