Carolyn Jeannie Tombaugh

Carolyn Jeannie Tombaugh passed away peacefully after a courageous twenty-plus-year battle with cancer on the evening of Tuesday, November 14th, 2023 at the Community Hospice Unit of the Baptist Medical Center South in Jacksonville, Florida. Carolyn Jeanne Bauridl was born on December 20, 1945, in San Diego, California, to Adelaida Carolina Pulido, and Chester Frances Bauridl. She lived a long and joyful life and touched the hearts of many with her compassion, humor, and thoughtfulness.

Jeannie is survived by her beloved husband of nearly fifty years, Richard Tombaugh, and her three children, Timothy Waller, Randall Tombaugh, Meagan Lindberg, and step-sons Brian Tombaugh and Brad Tombaugh, as well as her many grandchildren. For many years, nearly every Sunday was centered around a family dinner in which her children, their spouses, and her grandchildren gathered at the house. Her love for her family knew no bounds.

Jeannie was a remarkable woman and throughout her life she had many pastimes. She was fond of sewing, murder mysteries, show tunes, and books on self-improvement. In her later years she enjoyed researching and cataloging the many antiques, collectibles, photos, and dishes that had been passed down from previous generations. But more than anything else, Jeannie had a deep passion for dogs, particularly poodles. She was an avid advocate for animal welfare and dedicated much of her time to fostering dogs until they found loving homes, working closely with Coastal Poodle Rescue. Her commitment to providing a better life for these furry companions was a testament to her kindness and empathy.

The first to attend college in her family, Jeannie received her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from San Diego State University. After obtaining a Master's degree in Guidance and Counseling from George Mason University, Jeannie spent many years helping others. Whether providing invaluable support to individuals exiting the prison system or consoling women regarding family planning and reproductive health, she offered others kind and pragmatic guidance as they navigated challenging times in their own lives. Later in her career, she became active in the area of student financial aid, where she directed teams of analysts and product managers.

A Memorial Service to celebrate Jeannie's life was held on Tuesday, December 5, 2023 at the Hardage-Giddens Oaklawn Cemetery in Jacksonville, Florida. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to Coastal Poodle Rescue in Jeannie's honor.
