Carl Albert Carlson, Jr., of Ponte Vedra Beach, FL passed away on July 10, 2026. He was born October 4, 1934 in London, England. He and his family returned to the United States just before the start of WWII.

Carl grew up in Detroit, Michigan and after graduating from Howe Military Academy, he proudly served our country as a pilot in the Navy during his early adult life and continued in the Navy Reserves for a number of years. He eventually continued his service to our country as an Air Traffic Controller for the next 39 years until he retired in September of 2001, but voluntarily and without hesitation returned on 9/11/2001 to assist his former colleagues in landing every airplane in the country on that fateful day. He and his wife, Carol moved to Ponte Vedra Beach, FL in 2017. He was active in the Church and also joined the Ponte Vedra Senior Center. He frequently spoke fondly of his dear friends there.

Carl is survived by his son, Carl Timothy (Donna); daughters, Ingrid Anne (Steve) and Carol Therese; as well as grandchildren, John, Kelly, Carl David, Signe, Brandye, Rebecca, Benjamin, Kirsten, Abbie and Kyle; he also enjoyed having the richness of having great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. Carl was predeceased by his beloved wife of 63 years, Carol Roberta; his parents, Carl A. Carlson, Sr. and Signe Emelia Carlson (nee Nelson); sisters, Marion Ingrid Farqharson (John) and Irene Emelia Carlson; daughter, Karen Marie Flinn (Ben); son, Eric Charles (Joy).

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am, Saturday, August 8, 2026, in Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church with Reverend Kurian Kollapallil as Celebrant.
