Byron John Bos

Byron J. Bos, age 54, passed away peacefully at his home on April 21, 2025, after a year-long battle with lung cancer. He was surrounded at his bedside by his loving partner and soulmate of 10 years, Melissa Lawson; his father, Cornelius Bos; mother, Ruth Ann Oosterhuis; brother, Matthew Bos; and his dearest friend, Olivia Gill.

He is also survived by his brother, Brendon Bos; stepdaughter, Madison Bryant; Melissa’s mother, Shelley Lawson; and her brother, David Lawson.

Byron held several careers throughout his life, with his favorite being a 10-year tenure with CBS Golf, where he served as Graphics Coordinator. In his 22 years living in Jacksonville Beach, Byron became deeply loved and cherished by the many people he touched, inspired, and helped along the way. His positive energy and spirit were truly contagious.

Byron’s passion for giving back and helping others will forever remain in our hearts. He had a deep love for the ocean, weather, surfing, golf, and music. His affection for animals and plants—especially for his four beloved cats—was pure and true. He was lovingly known as the “cat whisperer.”

He was a rockstar in many areas of life, but most profoundly in the way he loved: inclusively, selflessly, and unconditionally. His love only grew stronger with time. He didn’t just show up—he went above and beyond to make those he loved feel truly special and unforgettable.

Byron always emphasized: Believe in yourself, think boldly, be brave, and act with purpose. He lived those truths and more. Gratitude was central in his life—we are, indeed, blessed beyond measure to have had him.

Rumor has it that he is now attempting to explain to Pope Francis—who passed on the same day—the mechanics of his John Daly backswing and the odds of his beloved Oregon Ducks winning the National Championship in 2026.

Byron will forever live on in the hearts of his many friends, who were lucky enough to share in his unstoppable humor and optimism. His famous saying, “Greatest Day Ever,” will live on through each of us every day.

A Memorial Service will be held at Victory Lutheran Church on May 10, 2025, at 11:00 AM, followed by a Celebration of Life at 2:00 PM at Valley Smoke.

We will always love, treasure, and miss you—but you will live on in our hearts, always.
