Burl Gene Huffman, 92, passed away peacefully on June 17, 2024. Burl was born in Jasper, TX on February 28,1932 to James & Mary Huffman.
Burl joined the Navy after graduating high school and served as a Radioman for 32 years. He retired as a Master Chief in 1980.
Burl continued to work at Mayport Navy Base as a civilian for the next 20+ years. He also assisted his son Tom in the carpentry business until 2020. Burl was known to show up at a relative’s home to mow the lawn at any given time and was always dropping off National Geographic magazines at his son & grandson’s house. Burl loved to tinker and was always building or fixing something!
Burl is preceded in death by his parents, 12 siblings, his first wife Kathryn, his son, Ed Huffman and daughter Susan Rodriquez. He is survived by his spouse Karon, son Tom (Debi), grandchildren Tyler (Makayla) Katy (Cody), Malori (Nate), Haley and 6 great grandchildren.
A Gathering of Family and Friends will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Friday, June 28, 2024, in Quinn-Shalz Family Funeral Home followed by an escorted procession to Jacksonville National Cemetery for a committal service with military honors at 2:00 p.m.
