Bernard Lee Oechsli

Born on December 13, 1929, to Louis and Elizabeth Oechsli in Louisville, Kentucky. Bernard lived a life full of dedication, generosity, humor, kindness, and music. After graduating from the University of Louisville Speed School of Engineering in 1959, Bernard embarked on a long and successful career at Allied Signal, rising to the position of Director of Engineering. Both commitment and excellence marked his thirty-five years of service, and after Honeywell acquired Allied, Bernard retired in 1994.

Bernard’s devotion extended well beyond his professional accomplishments. He married the love of his life, Mary Alma Graves, in 1956, and together they built a vibrant family, raising nine children: Tom (Suely), Lou (Molly), Anne (Jasmin), Catherine (Robert), Benita (Tom Rye), Bernie (Lisa), Libby (Bo), Mary (Randy), and Lauren (Tom K.). Bernard’s legacy continues to flourish through his 19 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. He is also lovingly remembered by his sister-in-law, Shirley Oechsli, and a host of nieces and nephews.

Bernard’s passions brought people together. He was an avid golfer, but it was his love for music that truly defined him. Possessing a beautiful singing voice, Bernard sang with the adult choir at Florida County College, performed with the Jacksonville Symphony Chorus, lent his talents to the barber shop quartet “The Sons of the Beaches,” and cantored at his church. His presence was felt both on and off the stage, always lifting spirits with song.

On July 24, 2026, Bernard passed away peacefully, leaving behind cherished memories and a legacy of love, music, and family. His life touched so many, and his spirit continues to inspire all who knew him.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, September 12, 2026, in Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church, 545 A1A N, Ponte Vedra Beach, FL.
