Bernard James Connelly, Jr.

September 28, 1951 — May 2, 2025

The bastion of our family, Bernard James Connelly Jr., 73, passed away suddenly on Friday, May 2, 2025, at his home in Jacksonville, FL. Born on September 28, 1951, in Buffalo, NY. Bernie was the beloved son of the late Bernard James Connelly Sr. and Helene M. Connelly (née Wagner).

Bernie, known affectionately as "Bern" to many, was a loving brother, who treasured his close-knit family and maintained deep connections with them throughout his life. He is survived by his six siblings: Timothy (Susan Martinick) Connelly, Terrance (Sandra) Connelly, Beth Anne (Daniel) Zampino, Jeanne (Michael) Tribuzzi, Margaret Mary (Glenn Sciarratta) Connelly, and Patrick Connelly. Bern made favorable and lasting impressions on all his siblings and was a beloved uncle to their children. His legacy will be carried on and passed down through the generations.

He was the proud father of two children: Jessica Connelly (James Morris) and Bernard James Connelly III (Sabrina Connelly). Above all else, Bernie prioritized guiding and supporting his children, always generous with his time, wisdom, and love. His greatest pride came from his grandchildren: Kegan Morris, Bernard James Connelly IV ("Benny"), Laney Morris, and Sterling Connelly, with whom he shared never-ending laughter and countless happy memories.

Bernie is survived by his devoted partner of 21 years, Florrie Redick of Ponte Vedra Beach, FL. Together, they shared a life filled with adventure and companionship. They traveled the world, with memorable trips to Australia, Hawaii, Ireland, Spain, Morocco, and an Alaskan cruise. They loved playing golf side by side. Their passion for golf and football was a constant joy in their lives.

Professionally, Bernie's career spanned over four decades in the railroad industry. He began his career with Conrail in 1973 and continued through its transition to CSX, retiring in 2015. Throughout his career, he earned the respect and admiration of colleagues for his dedication and integrity.

A lifelong and passionate golfer, Bernie found joy on the greens and in the camaraderie of friendly competition. He loved organizing football and golf pick 'em leagues that brought friends and family together year after year. In retirement, he relished every moment spent with his grandchildren - especially trips to the Alligator Farm, the zoo, and amusement parks. His grandchildren are his greatest passion, and the defining love that drove his life. He had a special love for birthdays and holidays, making each occasion memorable with his warmth, enthusiasm, and piles of presents.

Bernie will be remembered for his booming voice, infectious laugh, and playful sense of humor. He loved to tease in good fun and was often the life of the party. His joyful personality lit up every room, and his sense of humor and spirited competitiveness left a lasting impression on all who knew him.

Bernie's life was defined by his unwavering love for family, his loyalty to friends, and his ability to bring people together through laughter and competition. His sudden passing leaves a profound void, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
