Listen to Obituary

Alaine Donna Tremel, 81, passed away January 8, 2026. She was born November 22, 1944, in New York City to John and Florence Siena, her loving parents. She was raised in Lutherville, MD and met her future husband Michael in 1965 at Juniata College in Huntingdon, PA where she studied education. After college, Alaine and Michael were married in 1966 while she pursued a career teaching elementary school.

They later moved to Ellicott City, MD where they raised two children, Meredith and Damon, and Alaine continued to work for the public school system. She loved teaching children and encouraging them to read; she always had a love for books. She was an amazing mother always spending time with her kids, doing craft projects, attending school events, and attending sport events. Alaine was involved heavily in high school band activities, often taking trips with her son, managing fund raising activities, Boy Scout events, and school PTA meetings. She was a lifelong volunteer, often coordinating events for food donations for families in need. She had a wonderful group of lifelong friends in Ellicott City and throughout Maryland with whom she maintained contact throughout her life. She enjoyed book clubs and craft groups and spending time with friends. She enjoyed helping to raise her grandson Jonathan when his dad was at work. After her children left home, she and Mike relocated to New Jersey in Egg Harbor Township (EHT), near her beloved family's summer home in Brigantine, NJ. She loved going to the beach there and having the entire family gather during summertime. She carried out the remainder of her career as a librarian/teacher for Egg Harbor City, NJ. Her favorite event was Read Across America Day where she would dress as the Cat in the Hat and read Dr. Seuss books to the children; she'd involve the whole school and decorate. She and Mike retired to Wilmington, NC where she continued to work on neighborhood newsletters and organize outings/events. They later moved to Jacksonville, FL where she continued to enjoy the book club, bingo, and other events at their home in the Windsor Pointe Independent living facility.

She was a lifelong advocate for reading, advocating for the under-served, educating children, and spending time with family. She was always a positive force in the family and often would say there was a solution to any problem, then come up with it. She made friends with everyone she met and enjoyed talking with them and learning about their experiences.

Alaine is survived by her loving husband of 59 years, Michael (Mike 82); son Damon (53); daughter Meredith (53); grandchildren Jonathan (Jon 30), Maddie (17), Sienna (13). Hayden (15), Cole (15); great-grandchildren Laurelin (Laurie 4), and Lillian (Lilly 9 months).....She loved her grandchildren more than anything in the world and always jumped at the chance to spend time with them. She was predeceased by her parents John and Florence Siena, her aunts Betty Lindenboom and Anne Stephens, and her sister Leslie Doster.

Her family will miss her very much!
